About

Welcome!

Why rituals for one you ask? Good question, you have come to the right page.

Recently I was watching one of my favourite movies - Shall We Dance - I was struck by a character's monologue on  marriage.

Beverley gave an impassioned declaration that to choose marriage is to know that:

"Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness".

I am someone who is a happy member of our growing singular society, however that day a prickly feeling washed over me.  Not only was no other person bearing witness to my everyday, but the pace at which I had been perusing my ambitions meant neither was I.

I was lost in the dizzying pace of constant emails, meetings, questions, organising and managing -  often arriving home speechless and spent.

When was the last time I was truly present?.....the sun was setting on the open air yoga studio, you know the one, in that far flung remote beachside village.

Taking a seat, I had nowhere to be and no one to please.  Looking back I can recall almost every detail of the sky changing from pinky-orange hues into an endless inky blue.  Time slowed with minutes feeling like hours.

The"it's been a long day" feeling, however kicks back in not long after you scan your passport at boarder control.

It was time to slow things down.

Unlike habits that are regular activities often perfomed for a long-term result, rituals exist to bring your focus to the moment.

Throughout history rituals have been used by families, communities and religions to mark time and milestones while also creating ties and belonging  through shared experience and celebration.

In a bid to overcome merging days, weeks and months slipping through my fingers, I knew I needed more moments of marking moments in my own life.

Personal rituals explored through this site aim to create a feeling of connection to the moment, which also have the side effect of creating some perspective about the bigger picture.

Join me as I explore rituals that have allowed me to slow down and bare witness to the joys of my dinner for one lifestyle.
